Description

Lionel 6-18343 Pennsylvania GG1 Green #2332 NO BOX

First produced in 1947, the Lionel 2332 GG-1 instantly became a fan favorite. Sleek in design and built of sturdy die-cast, the GG-1 was a prized possession for all who owned it. For the sake of being as prototypical as possible, much time and effort was spent in the formulation of Pennsylvania’s “Brunswick Green” paint. Brunswick, once referred to as a can of black paint with a drop of green mixed in, proved very difficult to replicate. That difficulty led to one of the great controversies of the Postwar Era.

During one of the initial runs of the GG-1, it is said that perhaps as many as a half-day’s production were painted black instead of the intended Brunswick. Others say that by looking at those engines in broad daylight you could see a hint of green, thereby quashing the “conspiracy theorists”’ claims. Whatever the case, the story of the black GG-1’s has been a hot topic of debate for years. No matter which side of the argument you fall on, we are sure you will agree that the Archive Collection’s GG-1 is a must addition to any collection.
